Wastewater can be recycled into clean water as well as to generate electricity. A new wastewater treatment technology called Megawatter system was developed by Emefcy, an Israeli based company which received support from several large companies such as General Electric, ConocoPhillips, and NRG Energy.
Megawatter System is a system that works to transform wastewater into electricity and clean water using bacteria to produce a bioreactor. Its electrogenic bioreactor in the wastewater will provides microbial fuel cells(MFC). The bacteria used are Shewanella, Geobacter, and Rhodoferax. They will serve to outline the glutens in the water or as a catalyst.
According to the company, the system can be applied to existing wastewater treatment plants. They intend to develop their technology to be implemented commercially in the end of this year for city wastewater treatment and industrial .
