Potato Powered Green Organic Battery

Has it ever crossed your mind about Eco-friendly battery-powered by potato ? That is what is currently being developed by researchers at Yissum Research from University of Jerusalem. They have been using treated potatoes to create an ecogreen batteries that cheaper than ordinary batteries.

A simple way of working by enhanced salt bridge capability of treated potato tubers to generate electricity. The boiling potato prior to use in electrolysis, able to increase ten fold battery power over the untreated potato. In this way the batteries will be able to work for weeks.

The treated potato batteries have been successfully tested for LED lighting, and its fifty times cheaper than currently available batteries, such as 1.5 Volt D cells and Energizer E91 cells. In addition the organic batteries will be very useful for developing countries to replace the kerosene lamps which they use for most of the traditional lighting. Its will be six times cheaper than the use of kerosene lamps.

According to the researchers, the application of this technology will be very cheap and will greatly help developing countries to use the green power source that can substantially improve the quality of life.

There was a fellow who made a 500 lb potato battery and it produced a whopping 5 volts and 0.2 milliamperes. Don't disconnect from the grid just yet.
