Aluminum alloy to produce drinking water and electricity

Bookmark and Share
Researchers at Purdue University, developed a way to produce drinking water and electricity from non-drinking water uses aluminum alloy for mobile technology. They have created a portable unit consisting of alloy (aluminum, gallium, indium and tin), fuel cells and reactors, which overall weighs less than 100 pounds.

Alloy inserted into fresh water or salt water will split water into hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen can be incorporated into fuel cell to generate electricity. Water vapor that comes out will kill the microorganisms present and will be cooled to form pure water.

Technology is also close to use the saline water which abundance available in the ocean to make potable water and electricity. In addition, the use of aluminum as a cheap metal and non-hazardous wastes. Aluminum reacts to water to convert into the aluminum hydroxide.

Researchers claim that the device can produce drinking water for $ 1 per gallon, and electricity for 35 cents per kilowatt hour of energy, its very efficient compared to the construction of a power plant.

Does this mean..that finally they have been able to ionize water into its components completely???
