This is revealed by Bloomberg analysts New Energy Finance, stating that in 2010 were 187 billion dollars spent for the construction of wind turbines, photovoltaics, biomass, geothermal, etc., as they were "only" those invested to build 157 power plants fueled by natural gas, oil and coal.
The progress of renewable sources has been nothing short of remarkable - said Achim Steiner, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Environment Programme - partly because the record investment came in the midst of an economic and financial crisis.
Another good news is that increased investment in the sector has led to a progressive decline in the prices of components for renewable electricity in general and more "green", making it far more competitive with conventional energy sources.
A vital role in spending for alternative energy incentives must be applied by a growing number of governments and local authorities. Just last year, analysts reveal Bloomberg, were delivered globally about 66 billion dollars in public subsidies for renewables.
