A development of hydrogen technology in generating electricity using a powder to extract hydrogen from water and converted into electricity using fuel cells. A small system in the trunk that is expected to double the range of electric car.
Hydrogen technology uses powder is a new breakthrough from the County Durham-based Inova Power Limited. A partnership with Sunderland University Institute of Automotive and Manufacturing Advanced Practice (Amap), a company based in NetPark, not far from Sedgefield trying to commercialize the product to market which an assistance for this project will also be provided from the development agency One North East.
In the system of an electric car, the powder will be mixed in water and extract hydrogen to be converted into electrical energy using fuel cells. An electric car would be able to double the range on this system because the electric car battery would be charged with electricity generated from the system when the vehicle moves.
This technology is expected to resolve the problem about the use of giant hydrogen tank and filling station on cars that uses gas.
